"Land of beauty, cold and cruel" (Nightwish). These are the words I recall each time I fly over the Greenland which is seen here on the picture taken on Jan, 2002.

The thing is, the Seattle -- Moscow flight has to go far, far north, right across the Greenland to fit within the plane reach limits. I've flown that route many times, and most of them I've seen that view below the plane. It is beautiful beyond the point you can tell. It is the middle of the road between USA and Russia. It is like the threshold between two different lifes which I live since 2000 -- cold and deadly.
